I Winter Piece Left Hand alone

This meditative piece was written for solo piano to be played with Left Hand alone. The minor key effectively conveys the cool and dark feeling of a winter's day while interesting effects are achieved by cluster chords and modern harmonies.

The premier performance was in September 1995 at the Australian Piano Music Concert held at Sydney Town Hall and was performed by the composer Margaret Brandman.

Performance history — Dr Adrienne Wiley

II Arioso Jazz arrangement

Arioso by J.S.Bach. Jazz arrangement — a new sound accompanies the original beautiful melody.

III Churinga Contemporary

A very contemporary work which begins dramatically and has a contrasting softer chordal section in the middle. This work has been arranged for classical accordion and a more recent version has been written for Stradella accordion. This version is available on request as a single sheet.

ANZCA Grade Eight · List Piece

The piano version of Churinga has been set as a Grade Eight list piece for ANZCA examinations. It has also been published in the ANZCA Series 2 Classical Pianoforte book, Grade Eight.

"To whom it may concern, My name is Li Li and I'm playing Churinga, composed by Margaret Brandman, for my 2004 Higher School Certificate in music. Dr Brandman has given a great deal of her time to help me arrange this piece for the Piano Accordion (as it was originally a piece for Classical Accordion). I am pleased to say that I received full marks for playing this piece in my school exams."

Li Li, April 2004
